The greening standard is set by executive direction; planting and tree-care work is delivered by the operating departments within their existing authority.
The problem
In a Tampa summer, shade is not decoration — it is the difference between a walkable street and an oven. Too many blocks have no tree canopy at all, just concrete and sun, and the neighborhoods that need shade most are often the ones that have the least of it.
The plan
The city will build out neighborhood greening and shade to the Beautiful City Standard: targeted tree plantings along walking routes and gathering spots, care for what is already growing, and native plantings that hold up to Tampa heat. Planting priorities go first to the neighborhoods with the least canopy.
Every planted tree gets a named owner and a funded maintenance plan, because a tree without care is just a stump waiting to happen. TaskTampa supplies only legally appropriate, trained, quality-controlled support work for plantings and upkeep.
How you’ll know it’s working
- Shade and canopy priorities published by neighborhood
- Plantings concentrated first in neighborhoods with the least canopy
- Every planting with a named owner and funded maintenance plan
- Survival and care of planted trees tracked over time
